Meet Jon and Kirsty, who run the Ripley store.
Who would believe that the ten-
We have been married for just over 20 years and have two daughters, Sophie is studying at Nottingham Trent University and Chloe is sitting her A Levels at St John Fishers School next year.
We both grew up locally and ran our own car valeting, domestic and commercial cleaning businesses. We had some very nice clients for whom we had worked for a number of years, but we felt that the opportunity of a new venture for us and being able to run the business as a family could not be missed.
With the very kind help of the previous owner and company Director we purchased Ripley Stores comprising of Ripley Shop, Ripley Ice Cream and the Magnesia Well Cafe in the Valley Gardens on August 1st 2020.
Due to the pandemic, it was an uncertain time to purchase such a business but due to extensive planning for every eventuality, including a second lockdown we thought and hoped the business would survive.
So far we have been very fortunate, as apart from going for a walk having an ice cream and a coffee people haven't been able to do anything else, so we had a good winter and spring season and as long as the rain holds off summer will be busy too.
As you can see by the picture Ripley Ice Cream was part of my childhood growing up, and with 37 years pocket money, Kirsty and I bought it! In turn it is somewhere we regularly brought our girls on an afternoon for an ice cream and a walk round the beautiful village of Ripley.
We really appreciate what a great business and brand we now own in a beautiful location. It is very important to us to provide a lovely place to visit offering high quality products, good value for money with helpful and friendly service.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us so far, you know who you are. A big thank you also to all the customers who have supported the businesses who we see week in week out and in some cases daily, thank you.
